Practical Tips

Harness
Samba uses a Ruffwear harness that helps me support most of her weight if needed when I take her on walks. I often use this in addition to using her sling which supports her hind legs. The Ruffwear harness helps me stabilize her movement. I got mine at Altrec.

Booties
Samba uses Neopaws booties on her hind legs when I take her on her walks to protect her paws because she tends to "knuckle" her hind left paw.

Orthopedic Bed
I made an orthopedic bed by folding a memory foam bed topper in half that I bought at Target for $15, and then I covered it with a flannel sheet that I made into a cover.

Rubber Flooring
Samba stays all day while I'm at work in the garage, which I have completely lined with a rubber flooring. It's the flooring used in the gyms. I got mine from a rubber supply company - Cal Neva Supply in San Leandro, CA. I also got a 25' rubber runner for my inside hallway.

Custom Doggie Door
Samba was getting stuck in the conventional doggie door which led her from the garage to the side yard to do her business. I bought an inexpensive wooden screen door from Lowe's, removed the screening and replaced the panels with plexi-glass except one panel which Samba uses to go outside. It was large enough and low enough to give her easy access.

Rubber Outside Mat
I had to get an outside rubber mat (from Costco) which I used outside Samba's doggie door because she was getting stuck outside due to lack of traction. This mat has holes in it which allows easy hosing down. I also use it for her baths.

Wheel Chair
I bought a Walkin Wheels to help Samba walk without my assistance, but it's a bit of a challenge due to her tendancy to lean heavily onto her left side. I'm still working on getting her to use this. After she got a severe rash from the front harness, I'm now using my kid's t-shirt on her before putting on the harness. Used Walkin Wheels can be purchased at Handicappedpets.com.
